Linux on an Evo N1020v

In September 2003 my employer finally decided that I could get a laptop. Sadly enough they also decided that it should be a Compaq Evo N1020v. The machine is not exactly Linux compatible, but with a bit of work I have managed to figure out how to get it to work anyway.

The touch pad

The touch pad seemed to be undetectable, but if you tell gpm that it is a PS/2 IntelliMouse (imps2) things seem to work in the console.

Power management

Most of the kernels I have tried have been unable to talk to the ACPI system in the machine, but the 2.4.23 kernel ("2.4.23-1-686" as Debian delivers it) is at least able to get the machine to shut down properly.

Graphics

It appears that you need XFree86 version 4.3.0 to get the display system to work. Adding the lines:

deb http://debian.fabbione.net/debian-ipv6 sid ipv6
deb-src http://debian.fabbione.net/debian-ipv6 sid ipv6
